GUNK
(aka girl funk)
is exactly what the name implies:
an ALL GIRLS FUNK BAND.

 GUNK is an 8-piece band composed of guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, vocal, trombone, alto saxophone and tenor/baritone saxophone. Made up of local music teachers and musicians, GUNK loves to draw inspiration in their music making from the original Motown girl groups of the 1950's and 60's. Building from there, we add our own flare on pop songs such as "Dance The Night" by Dua Lipa, classics like "I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor, and favorites like the Spice Girls, duh! 

Our inspiration comes from the original girl groups like The Supremes, The Marvelettes, Martha and The Vandellas, and many more that created this foundational sound. We love to play around with the soul/funk/Motown/R&B sound of girl groups, sprinkle in some pop tunes, add a funky bass line and guitar riff, and there you have it... GUNK.
